PARKS & RECREATION

Paul Derda Recreation Center

CITY AND COUNTY OF BROOMFIELD, CO | BROOMFIELD, CO

The $18 million Paul Derda Recreation Center in Broomfield, Colorado was designed according to the principles of ‘perceived motion’ and ‘bringing the mountains to the plains’. The 85,000 square foot facility provides city and county residents with a swimming pool (including a current channel, lap lanes, 2 water slides, and water features), therapy pools, an indoor running track, a gymnasium, a gymnastics room, fitness and cardio areas, and aerobics and dance studios. There are also kid-friendly spaces such as an indoor play area, a babysitting room, a tot activity room, a teen room, party rooms, and family locker rooms. Reese Hackman coordinated with the Owner, the Architect, and the rest of the design team to ensure that the lighting and power systems met the needs of the facility and were within the project budget.
