Project Description

Funded by a $71 million grant from the Kroc family, as well as monies raised by the local community, the Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center of Salem, Oregon, is estimated to accommodate 900 members each day.  The 92,000 square foot building cost $40 million to construct and is located on a 10.65-acre site with views of an adjacent nature park.  The Kroc Center features a competition pool, leisure pool, fitness center, full-sized gymnasium, dance/aerobics studio, 288-seat chapel/auditorium, library, computer room, arts room, events space, and an outdoor amphitheater.  The facility was a winner in Recreation Management Magazine’s 2010 Eighth Annual Innovative Architecture and Design Awards.  Reese Engineering provided the electrical engineering and lighting design, as well as low voltage and telecommunications design services for the center, which is LEED Silver Certified.
